COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Guidelines for Reopening our Church Services

Please be informed that the Ontario Government has announced the partial opening of churches effective June 12, 2020. What this means to us is that we can now have our worship service in our church building – Glory to God! However, the number of attendees is limited to 30% of our building capacity. For our own protection, we shall continue to observe social distancing and other precautionary measures.

Below are our guidelines for the opening of our church services. These are adapted from the recommended guidelines by the US’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Hygienic and cleaning practices

· Encourage use of a cloth face covering at gatherings and when in the building by everyone.

· Use hygiene supplies, such as soap, tissues, no-touch trash cans, hand sanitizer (with at least 60 percent alcohol).

· Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at least daily and shared objects between use.

· Attendees are encouraged to bring their own water bottle.

Promoting social distancing

· Limit the size of gatherings to 30% of building capacity as per directives of government authorities.

· Use livestreaming for Sunday services (for those who are unable to attend church services), leaders’ meetings, Bible studies and prayer meetings.

· Space out seating for attendees who do not live in the same household to at least six feet apart when possible.

· Limited attendance or hold virtual service, if social distancing is difficult, for such event as funerals, weddings.

· No homes or hospital visitation except for certain compassionate care situations, such as end of life.

· Limiting the sharing of frequently touched objects such as microphones.

· No Sunday School yet. Children in this age group are encouraged to stay home until further notice.

· If food shall be served, use pre-packaged boxes or bags for each attendee. If plated, servers shall be used following proper procedures. Avoid food offerings when it is being shared from common dishes.

Monitoring and preparing

· Members who are sick shall stay at home. Those who are most vulnerable - those with pre-existing health issues and seniors 70 years and above are encouraged to stay home and join the service via livestream.

· Anyone who exhibits COVID-like symptoms during service shall be confined in a designated room.

· Notify local health officials if a person diagnosed with COVID-19 has been in the facility and communicate with members about potential exposure while maintaining confidentiality.

· Inform those with exposure to a person diagnosed with COVID-19 to stay home and self-monitor for symptoms.

· Close off areas used by the sick person and do not use the area until after cleaning and disinfection.
